About Us
I (James) have been building timber frames and log buildings full-time since 1997. Prior to that, I worked on building conservation projects around Britain, gaining experience in construction. I have been involved in small and large projects, ranging from repairs and alterations to large engineering projects. This experience made me aware of the amounts of wasted materials involved and the environmental footprint of modern construction, which is not always matched by the longevity of the structures involved.
I have always had a keen interest in conservation and environmental issues, and where possible I will always go for the sustainable option.
On a more personal level, I have lived with my partner and our two children in a low-impact structure for more than 10 years. We built this structure (which resembles a Yurt made of sustainably sourced timber, ash tree poles and with sheep's wool insulation) ourselves with a minimum of materials. One day, when it is gone, the surroundings will recover in less than a year.
